FD3 320/50 320V 50KA Power Surge Protector applied primarily to the main distribution system surge protection unit

Operating Principle

 

       Edge discharge technique is used for this device. The electrode is in the shape of angle.Two electrodes are placed face to face, and kept a certain distance between them by an insulating block made from special materials. There is an arc quenching baffle plate in the arc quenching chamber located under the electrode, which will be edge discharging at the surface of the insulating block when over-voltage is coming. The arc is forced outwards due to the angle shape structure of the electrodes and then split into many sub-arcs against the baffle plate. These discharge features are favorable for the arc quenching process after the discharge finished, and thus limiting the follow-through current caused by discharging.

 

Application

       

      The device is applied primarily to the main distribution system. It can suppress the direct lightning over-voltage or inductance over-voltage with high energy appeared in the lines of low voltage power system, to protect the buildings and various outdoor installed apparatus in the Class 1 lightning arresting area, which are likely to be stroke by lightning.
